I'm a great fan of Sasuke, or Ninja Warrior. It is a japanese TV programme based on an almost impossible obstacle course. It is a competition, and very few people have made it all the way to the end. The best competitors train solely for the competition, and for some of them, it seems to be a way of life. I have nothing against these obstacle course competitions, in fact I would love to have a go myself.

The problem with Parkour competition is that Parkour is about adapting yourself to movement. Competition rules restrict that freedom of movement, and people begin training to win the competition. Thus, Parkour as a discipline is compromised.

There was a competition last year, organised by Red Bull, who seem to have created an urban gymnastics competition, complete with large drops and crash mats. I imagine even the free-runners were writhing in their sleep. The fact that it was won by a misguided youth who going for the extra flip/amazement/wow-factor movement at the end managed to break his arm, only underlines the fact that "Parkour" competitions are not the way for Parkour to advance.
